Entryway- A Work in Progress

So, the entryway is a work in progress, but I wanted to share where I am in the process right now.  First, let's take a look at where we started.
Before
Not much going on, right? Yep.  So, I spruced it up a bit.  First, I found a new home for the lovely picture that was hanging there before and then I added a couple of other touches to add some color.  Let's take another look at the after picture.

 By the numbers:

1. Remember that piano bench makeover I did a few weeks ago?  Well, the bench has a new home.  It's a great piece of furniture for the entryway as it allows for storage and a place to sit when putting on or taking off shoes.

2.  I shared the story of these pictures and frames here and here.  A part of me wanted to spend time measuring the frames out perfectly--probably the large part that spent 10 years in a military environment.  But, I broke away from the 'dress-right-dress' mentality and hung them, purposefully, in a random arrangement. As tempted as I was to spend 20+ minutes making sure the frames were straight for the picture, I didn't!  So, if a crooked picture really bothers you, Quick! Look away!

3. I picked up this cute little basket from a store the other day for $5 or so.  I thought it would be wise to have a place to put mail when we walk through the door and we just don't feel like sorting through it yet. Hopefully, this will also deter any urge we have to pile things on the piano bench.  The basket started out white but I decided to paint it a 'claret wine' maroon.  Check out a close-up of the after picture below.

Well, there you have it, folks!  I still feel like something's missing. I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled for whatever that may be.  If I find it, I'll be sure to share!

What are you working on in your home?  Post your link in a comment!  I'd love to check it out!
