I Need Help: Shopping for a Bread Maker

I've been meaning to do this for awhile now, but I wasn't completely focused and really committed to making this decision until now.  I'm ready to a proud owner of a bread maker/machine.

This summer, I did some thinking about purchasing a bread maker/machine.  My husband and I love fresh bread and I'd like to be able to ensure that the bread we're consuming is fresh and healthy.  We have a friend who makes fresh bread that we occasionally sample, and it's amazing!  Actually, her bread continues to inspire me to own and operate my own machine.

When I was in high school, my mom borrowed a friend's bread maker for a month and she made some really, really good bread.  You know, the kind of bread that fills the air with that warm and yummy smell.  Wow, it was incredible!  I was so sad when she gave that machine back to her friend but, like I mentioned earlier, I hadn't really considered owning my own machine until this summer.  Well, my friends, I'm ready to take the plunge and purchase a machine for myself!  The only thing is, I'm not sure how to make this decision.  There are so many options out there and all at varying price ranges.  I tried to look on Consumer Reports for some advice, but I couldn't really find any.  So, I'm doing some shopping and hoping that some of you will point me in the right direction.

Please help!  Do you have a bread maker/machine?  What would you recommend?

  3. My wife makes great bread in regular pans. She gets out her frustrations kneading the dough herself.
