Take it Or Leave it: Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Hey Everyone!

It's that time of the week, again.  It's time for Take it Or Leave it Thursday [and the game show bells and whistles sound]!!  Let's get to it...

Once a month, Trey has been receiving a book in the mail for free.  Yes, for free.  These books come from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library for FREE.

"What is Dolly Parton's Imagination Library?" you ask.  Good question...Here's some more information from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Facebook Page
Source

"In 1996, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort to benefit the children of her home county in east Tennessee. Dolly wanted to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by giving each child one free, age appropriate book per month from birth to age 5. The program has seen phenomenal success and has grown to over 50,000,000 free books delivered throughout 4 countries."

A good friend told us about the program when Trey was just a month old.  Soon after, I registered him HERE and he now receives a brand new book in the mail every month.  And these are really good books.  For instance, the first one he received was "The Little Engine that Could," and the newest one he received was "Corduroy."  I must admit, Scott and I were way more excited to see the last one arrive than Trey was--talk about nostalgia.  Yes, there are some classics on the book list, but there are also some new ones.  Seriously though, how can you beat receiving a free book every month for the first five years of your child's life?  For us, it's been a fun way to keep new books coming & build Trey's little library to keep him interested in reading--or, for now, looking at pictures while we read.

You can check to see if you're in an area to receive books from the Imagination Library HERE...which also happens to be the same place you can register your child(ren)!

So Take it or Leave it...but spread the word because literacy is a big deal!
